The history of Destination Bokenäset
Destination Bokenäset a place where the Bohuslän coastline and human encounters merge into a holistic experience. Here, at the tip of Bokenäset Koljöfjorden, every jetty, path, and rock bears a story that spans generations.
From the Volvo era to a growing resort (1948–2016)
The story began in 1948 when Volvo, on the initiative of Gunnar Engellau, acquired the area to create a holiday resort for the company's employees. Over several decades, the place became a popular oasis for relaxation, team building and nature experiences. Over time, the facility grew into a spa and conference center with accommodation, recreation, and views of the archipelago's changing light.
A new chapter (2016–2025)
2016 marked a significant shift when the real estate company Youmeet AB, led by entrepreneur Svante Andersson, acquired the facility from Volvo. Under his ownership, development really took off. Investments were made in hotel rooms, a spa, restaurants, activities, a marina, and meeting facilities. The vision was to create a modern Nordic resort with sustainability and nature as its guiding principles.
This period laid the foundation for the Destination Bokenäset many guests recognize today—a place where Bohuslän nature, gastronomy, and well-being are woven together into a holistic experience.
A new shift – Cetera Hotels AB (2025–)
Now another chapter is being written in the history of the facility. Since 2025, Cetera Hotels AB, led by Patric Westdahl, has taken over the hotel and restaurant operations. With big visions and long-term ambitions, a new phase of development is beginning, building on everything that has already been created.
Cetera is investing not only in buildings and concepts, but in the very soul of Bokenäset. The focus is on more nature-based experiences, enhanced gastronomy, refined living environments, and vibrant year-round activities. The goal is clear: to Bokenäset Destination Bokenäset of Sweden's most inspiring archipelago destinations, where people can meet, relax, and experience something genuine.
A destination where nature, culture, and future potential meet
The rocky outcrops, forests, and waterways of Bohuslän spread out around the facility. Here you will find hiking trails, cycling routes, the tranquility of the coast, and cultural heritage sites such as the old church in Bokenäs and the ruins of Dragsmark Abbey. It is a place where history is always present, while the future is being built with curiosity and care.
Today, Destination Bokenäset continues Bokenäset develop with the same fundamental idea that has always been here: to create an environment where people can relax, find inspiration, and feel close to nature. With Cetera Hotels AB at the helm, the journey continues—based on proud roots and a future full of possibilities.
