WE WANT TO CONTRIBUTE TO A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE

Our sustainability work

At Bokenäset , nature Bokenäset not just part of the view – it is the very foundation of everything we do. That is why we work every day to run a hotel, a restaurant, and a destination that takes responsibility for the environment, people, and the future. We are at the beginning of our journey, but our desire to make a difference is strong and our direction is clear: to grow in a way that is thoughtful, sustainable, and wise.

Our sustainability philosophy

For us, sustainability is part of everyday life. It's about making conscious choices, showing consideration, and creating good conditions for guests, employees, and the natural environment around us. We want to be a place where experiences and responsibility go hand in hand, where quality and consideration are never at odds with each other.

All our work is based on the UN's global goals and the Inner Development Goals, two frameworks that help us combine structures, behaviors, and long-term ambitions. We believe that sustainability begins with people—and grows through every decision we make.

Sustainable food with care

The food at Bokenäset created with respect for both taste and the environment. We choose MSC and ASC-certified fish, work with local and organic ingredients whenever possible, and create menus that follow the seasons. Through careful planning, we reduce food waste and let Bohuslän's ingredients take center stage. It is important to us that our guests both enjoy their meal and feel that it is a responsible choice.

Collaborations with the local area

We are part of a larger context, and we want to contribute to strengthening the local community. That is why we are happy to collaborate with local suppliers and producers. This reduces transport distances, supports local entrepreneurs, and contributes to a more vibrant area—something that benefits both us and our guests.

Waste, resources, and disposable items

We are constantly working to reduce waste and use materials more wisely. Waste is carefully sorted and recycled, and disposable items are phased out wherever possible. By choosing quality, sustainable alternatives, and smart solutions, we take responsibility for the resources we use.

Chemicals and cleaning with care

We strive to minimize the use of chemicals in our operations and choose eco-labeled products as much as possible. This creates a better environment for our guests, our staff, and the nature around us.

Work environment and inclusion

A sustainable destination is built on the people who shape it. At our company, everyone should feel welcome, included, and appreciated. We actively work to develop our work environment, promote inclusion, and create a safe place where employees can grow and thrive. This is just as important as our environmental goals—and absolutely crucial for the future.

Energy & water
– a circular system by the sea

One of our most significant investments is our advanced recycling system for water treatment. This Bokenäset pioneer in sustainable water management and demonstrates how innovation and nature can truly work together.

We take water directly from Koljöfjorden and purify it into drinking water through filtration, ultrafiltration, and chemical precipitation. BDT water (bath, dish, laundry) is then purified in ponds, algae filters, and a technical wetland where phosphorus, nitrogen, and particles are separated. Toilet water is purified separately, and the sludge that is produced is digested into biogas, which is used to heat Restaurant Västersalt, among other things. The purified water is then returned to the purification system for further treatment.

When the cycle is complete, the water is returned to the fjord – cleaner than when it was collected.
The results speak for themselves: 98.7 percent phosphorus removal and 76.5 percent nitrogen removal, which exceeds municipal requirements by a wide margin. This system is an important part of our sustainability work and an area where we are proud to be at the forefront.

A journey we take together

We know that today's travelers are looking for places that take responsibility and work for the long term. Our goal is to be one of those destinations. At the same time, we are humbled by the fact that this is a journey without end—a development that requires commitment, curiosity, and courage.

When you visit Bokenäset , you Bokenäset part of our sustainability efforts, whether you choose local ingredients on the menu, sort your waste, or simply enjoy the nature we work to protect.

Together, we can make a difference—one step, one choice, and one day at a time.
